The Rushimela Indigenous Knowledge and Scientific Education (RISE) Foundation is a collaborative team of Indigenous community members, researchers, scientists, experts, trainers, and grassroots tribal volunteers. Our mission is to foster a harmonious coexistence of humanity grounded in moral values, traditional knowledge, and cultural heritage. Our journey began in the Melghat region of Maharashtra, and today we've expanded our reach across the state. We work to empower tribal communities through education, research, and community-driven development initiatives. By preserving and promoting Indigenous knowledge and cultural practices, we strive to create a more inclusive and sustainable future for all.
India faces a linguistic crisis with over 40% of its tribal languages at risk of extinction, threatening the cultural identity and heritage of indigenous communities. Preserving these languages can safeguard traditional knowledge, promote education, and empower tribal communities.
The tribal of India are rich in tribal wisdom but slowly fading off into history due to a growing disconnect between urban development and rural apathy. There is an urgent need for "people's transformation" backed by "Cultural Research" and service in Tribal areas of Maharashtra. The advantage of making an intervention to bridge this gap between modern and tribal culture and values will restore tribal folk language, literature, music and lifestyle on one hand and rural health, education, agriculture, tribal welfare and traditional livelihood on the other. Inaction will lead to a permanent loss of all that modern society could gain from the tribal wisdom and of course, a slow extinction of these tribes into annals of history.
In collaboration with stakeholders, we conduct in-depth research on tribal languages and cultures. We then compile substitute words from indigenous languages and vocal folklore, based on linguistic and anthropological standards, to produce Dictionaries (Gyankosh), Encyclopedias (Bhashakosh), with synonyms in Marathi, Hindi and English along with pictorial format, encyclopedias, illustrated language guides, and compilations of tales, songs, artwork, instruments, dances, and other aspects of tribal literature. This helps us bridge the cultural gap between tribal and urban communities.
We will be the bridge between rich tribal wisdom and progressive urban growth.
We will curate and implement relevant social interventions to connect tribal wisdom and urban growth.
Education of tribal children must be relevant and interesting for them.
The tribal knowledge base and wisdom must be researched and used for their education.
Tribal culture is inclusive and interdependent.
